HANNA INSTRUMENTS TITRATABLE ACIDITY MINI TITRATOR HI84432

HI 84432

Titratable Acidity Mini Titrator and pH Meter for Fruit Juice

Hanna Instrument was the first to introduce an affordable titration system that is specific for an application. The HI 84332 was specifically designed for the determination of titratable acidity of juice. The HI 84432 combines the advantages of a pH meter in determining the phenolphthalein endpoint with the precision dosing of an automatic titration system. The HI 84432 fruit juice mini titrator remains easy to operate especially for the operator that is not science trained. The formulas for determination of the acidity level are pre-programmed into the meter. The results can be displayed as citric, malic or tartaric acid. The operator does not have to know how to perform the calculations in order to use the meter and calculate acidity. The one thing that the operator will have to do is determine whether to use the Low Range (LR) or High Range (HR) setting. If unknown the LR setting can be used and if the reading is over ranged then set to HR.

The mini-titration system combines many of the advance features found in the Hanna Instruments HI 3220 professional grade benchtop pH meter. The meter has algorithms built in to alert the operator to the condition of the electrode (based on offset and slope of pH electrode), when to clean the electrode, and possible contamination of the pH buffer. The GLP Data (Good laboratory practice) can be viewed at a push of a button. Logged data can be transferred by USB to a PC.

The titration is very simple to perform. First, the pH meter is calibrated like any other pH meter by placing in pH buffers. Second, the dosing pump is periodically calibrated with a standard to know the exact volume that is being used during the titration. Lastly to do the titration a sample is added to the beaker and placed on the built in stirrer. Press titration and the results are then displayed at the end.

It is quite common to find operators in juice plants using a pH meter and burette system to perform an acidity measurement. The pH meter is definitely a better option than the chemical indicator of the past. We have to pay respect for Arnold Beckman for bringing the technology to the market place. The HI 84332 is an improvement in this technology by bridging the gap between a manual titration method with a pH meter and the automatic dosing of an expensive titration system.
